Welcome to the Velo Club Lincoln

book now

Welcome to the Lincoln based cycling club with accredited GO RIDE junior section. VC Lincoln comprises more than 140 members involved in all aspects of recreational riding, competitive training and racing. We have a calendar of rides every week of the year ranging from relaxed sociable trips through to high intensity chain gangs for the more competitive. Some members are pretty serious whilst others are training for new challenges in the UK or overseas, or simply riding socially and safely whilst steadily improving general fitness and wellbeing. We are a friendly lot and you are sure to find a warm welcome.

Our British Cycling trained and accredited coaches run a very active junior section which combines handling competences and skills with junior races which have a proven record of developing juniors into seniors, and the youngsters just love it! We are in the high season now with light nights and great weather, the Grand Tours are on TV, The National Cycling Championships have been held in Lincoln for the first time and cycling in the city is at a high water mark ! We hold a track session every Wednesday in the summer which is a great opportunity to show up and take a look at us (from 6:45pm), the kids and seniors will be racing round our dedicated 1 mile race track. You’ve read this far, so why not make a diary note and come down to Yarborough Sports Centre (LN1 3SP) this Wednesday – as I said, we are a friendly lot who just love riding our bikes.

Why join us ? For all sports and activities, there is a huge amount of information on the internet and a comprehensive choice of magazines, but at Velo, our members are able to offer first class advice and encouragement based upon decades of riding experience. Tell us your objectives and you’ll find that there will be a handful of people who can immediately guide you or your child and, they’ll support you on your journey.

To distil it all down, we all love riding our bikes and welcome you to come along and take your riding to a new level within a socially proactive environment.

🚴‍♀️🚴 National Trophy Round 4 - Sandwell Valley 🚴🚴‍♀️

This weekend a record breaking 9 of our riders made the journey to the other side of Birmingham for Round 4 of the National Trophy Cyclo-Cross Series and mud was the name of the game!

After some persistent rain leading up to the weekend, we woke up to a dry-ish day, but the ground was sodden and the grass very quickly turned from green to a brown slop, tough to ride through and completely energy sapping. The off cambers and switch back hills were incredibly slippery. The hurdles were huge, with most riders choosing to dismount and run!

First up for us on Saturday was Ben in the Masters 40, he dug deep, powered through the mud and finished 21st🏅Well done Ben!

A couple of hours later and the mud was getting stickier, clogging the bikes quicker and changing the conditions. Time for our Under 16 boys to line up in another enormous field. A crash at the start meant Toby had nowhere to go other than over the handlebars, but he recovered well and fought his way back to 42nd🏅with Zach in 74th🏅and Charlie 79th🏅Well done boys!

Straight after Freya and Alex lined up for their race. The mud still nasty, they both rode with grit and determination with Freya finishing an incredible 10th and Alex 25th🏅 Well done girls!

Final race of the day on Saturday was the Under 14 boys. By now the conditions had worsened, to the point where the start straight was so bad the start was altered to keep everyone safe. Herbie and Bradley tackled the course head on and gave it everything they had with Herbie finishing 66th🏅 and Bradley 70th🏅 Well done boys!

Sunday saw the turn of Mark in the Senior race riding well to finish 21st🏅 Well done Mark!

An amazing display of resilience, perseverance and determination from our riders this weekend, you are all amazing! Well done to the pit crews too!

The clean up operation complete (hopefully), we go again next weekend for the Regional Championships at Normanby Hall. Good luck everyone! 🚴‍♀️🚴

🚴‍♀️ Lincs League Cyclo-Cross Round 6 - Doddington Hall 🚴‍♀️🚴

Today we were at Doddington Hall for the great woodland course organised by Lincoln Cycling Club. A beautiful fresh morning in the woods. The course was technical with lots of single track meaning tactics and position were key. It was twisty, rooty, loamy, leafy and punchy, with a couple of bridges thrown in, what more could you want?!

The youth race was up first. In the Under 14 girls Alex had a strong ride to take victory🥇 Awesome Alex, well done!

In the Under 14 boys, Hector rode the roots well to come 2nd🥈 with Herbie in 4th🏅 Fantastic riding boys, well done!

In the Under 16 boys Toby had another dominant ride to take the win 🥇 with Zach 2nd 🥈 and Charlie 4th 🏅 despite a trip over the handlebars! Great work boys, well done!

Then it was the turn of the Under 12s. In the girls Thea mastered the twists well and held off strong competition to take the win🥇with Heidi in 3rd🥉 Superb riding girls, well done.

In the Under 12 boys, Albert recovered from a tumble to take 8th place 🏅 Great ride Albert, well done!

Wrapping up the day in the Vets race Wayne dodged the roots like a pro to take 15th place 🏅 Well done Wayne!

Yesterday Oliver raced the Notts and Derby League at Markeaton Park. He got a flying start, but over cooked the corner a bit, leaving him further down the field. He recovered well, picking riders off to get back to 5th Junior 🏅 Well done Oliver!

A rest week for Lincs League next week, but some of our riders are making the journey to Birmingham for Round 4 of the National Trophy Series. Best of luck to those and anyone riding neighbouring leagues 🚴🚴
