Welcome to the Velo Club Lincoln

book now

Welcome to the Lincoln based cycling club with accredited GO RIDE junior section. VC Lincoln comprises more than 140 members involved in all aspects of recreational riding, competitive training and racing. We have a calendar of rides every week of the year ranging from relaxed sociable trips through to high intensity chain gangs for the more competitive. Some members are pretty serious whilst others are training for new challenges in the UK or overseas, or simply riding socially and safely whilst steadily improving general fitness and wellbeing. We are a friendly lot and you are sure to find a warm welcome.

Our British Cycling trained and accredited coaches run a very active junior section which combines handling competences and skills with junior races which have a proven record of developing juniors into seniors, and the youngsters just love it! We are in the high season now with light nights and great weather, the Grand Tours are on TV, The National Cycling Championships have been held in Lincoln for the first time and cycling in the city is at a high water mark ! We hold a track session every Wednesday in the summer which is a great opportunity to show up and take a look at us (from 6:45pm), the kids and seniors will be racing round our dedicated 1 mile race track. You’ve read this far, so why not make a diary note and come down to Yarborough Sports Centre (LN1 3SP) this Wednesday – as I said, we are a friendly lot who just love riding our bikes.

Why join us ? For all sports and activities, there is a huge amount of information on the internet and a comprehensive choice of magazines, but at Velo, our members are able to offer first class advice and encouragement based upon decades of riding experience. Tell us your objectives and you’ll find that there will be a handful of people who can immediately guide you or your child and, they’ll support you on your journey.

To distil it all down, we all love riding our bikes and welcome you to come along and take your riding to a new level within a socially proactive environment.

Following The Boris Roadmap

We are planning to return to weekend club rides and also Wednesday evening sessions at Yarborough as soon as Active Nation open up the facility and we can be confident that all will be Covid Safe.

Confirmation of dates will be posted as soon as we know

To ensure that we can comply with BC rider safety and safeguarding requirements, ALL fully paid up club riders will be issued personal helmet QR code stickers when they collect their 2021 race number.

Each rider needs to register their QR code which will provide both Medical and ICE information in case of incident/accident ( The details on how to do this are provided with the stickers).
Having this sticker fitted and registered will be a condition of riding at both coaching sessions and club rides.
An annual subscription fee of only £1.00 is required to maintain this fantastic and necessary facility.

Due to the ongoing uncertainties and possibility of yet more restrictions, we intend to run all Club events/sessions as simply as possible this year...

As previously, we will run alternate weeks of Coaching (BC) and Racing (TLI).
Everyone will need to ensure that they have updated their Club membership, BC and TLI subscriptions ahead of the Wednesday night sessions.

The 2021 race weeks will probably occur during July and August. Due to the limited times available/club events that need covering, they will ONLY be open to club members.
All Youth, Junior and Senior levels will be catered for and these races will hopefully include the annual club championships and races.

LCRL events are scheduled to continue in 2021 from May. We are due to host the 10th July event and your assistance will be requested to make it a great day, once again.
Dean Hughes and the team from BC are hoping to run additional support and coaching sessions for Ladies/Girls – These will be followed up by Ladies only races.

Hopefully our association with Lincoln Wheelers and their TT schedule will continue this year.

From 29th March, BC affiliated clubs can host club runs of up to 15 riders.
With this in mind, it is our intention to return to weekend rides as soon as possible.
Each ride will be posted on the Facebook page. To ensure that we can comply with group sizes and wait for attending riders, we ask that you all accept the invite (for every ride you intend to join).

If more than 15 accept the invite, we will organise separate groups, start times and ride leaders.

Saturday - Lincs FM ride - 10am start.
All younger riders and parents are welcome to join Roger and Andy for a ride to Bardney and back. Better riders will also do some road riding.

Saturday Seniors Ride - Yarborough Sports Centre Entrance - 9am start.
A ride for competent riders that can maintain a 20mph average over 50+ miles
Routes are generally designed relative to the wind direction or requirement for climbing efforts

Sunday Club Ride - Yarborough Sports Centre Entrance - 9am start.
A ride for all seniors and invited youth riders that can maintain 16-17mph average over 50+ miles.
Routes are generally designed relative to the wind direction or requirement for climbing efforts. Where youth/junior riders join, we will adjust their groups ride length/duration as necessary.
As restrictions ease and the weather improves, we will be adding coffee stops and other distractions to encourage a more relaxed and sociable ride.

Parent-guardian note: All youth riders will be returned to Yarborough, unless they are competent and have your written permission to peel off and make their own way home.

If you have any questions please get in touch with one of the coaches contact details are on this website.

Look forward to riding with you again soon.
